Prologue
A New Age

A everlasting warmth filled Trace as she walked outside. Today her husband was finally returning from Astire. Trace had on her best outfit, a tight, gold, woven dress. She even fixed a red bow in her hair. Trace wished she could explain her reason for always dressing up nicely in dresses every single time her husband came over. "I guess some events can't be comprehended," she thought. Her baby girl waited eagerly at her side holding on to her mom's dress. At last, Jonzel came into view. He was smiling grandly as sweat dripped of his face. He tried to run but stumbled and fell due to the weight of his packages. Trace ran to his side; her daughter at her heels. Trace helped him up. Jonzel looked lovingly at Trace with his bright blue eyes. At the same time, they kissed holding each other. Then Jonzel put on a miscivecious look on his face as he looked at their daughter. In a instant, she ran behind a tree. "We have a smart girl don't we, Trace." said Jonzel holding himself from bursting out in laughter.
The next day a horn sounded, a frighting sound to hear from any place. "An invasion" Trace muttered. Her husband dased out of the house. He looked as if he could knock over anything in his path. Trace followed with her daughter. People were screaming on the streets as a boy in a black cape neared along with some of his followers. Jonzel quickly turned around. He grabbed Trace's hands. His eyes showed a deep pain inside him. "Run to a portal," he said and was off to head the army. Trace trembled where she stood as she saw people everywhere falling to the ground. The boy in the black cape laughed and shot a wave of darkness toward a house. There was a loud scream then silence. Debrie of the house came flying in all directions. Trace became rooted at her spot in horror. Her daughter's crying filled her ears. She realized she had to run. She picked up her daughter and started up a hill. She looked back for the last time. Bodies covered the streets. The army was fighting frantically.
Trace began running. Magic shot to the right and left of her but she focused only ahead. She ran for miles zigging left and right and always just avoiding the attack. People fell next to her or even in front. Tears, hot tears left her eyes. Her closest friend Sandra had caught up with them. She held Trace's right hand tightly. They looked fearfully into each others eyes. They entered the Forest of Portals. Their pursursers kept laughing as if it were a game.
Sandra and Trace paused for a second before a portal to check where it lead. At that very second, their pursurers threw a lance through Sandra. Trace screamed and started sobbing uncontrolably. She fell into the portal with her daughter. A portal that would forever separate Trace from the world she knew.
