When 1996 rolled around, Capcom was somewhat dried up and dying. Mega Man and Street Fighter can only take your company so far. Enter- little-known game creator Shinji Mikami and a team of skilled game designers. The Flagship sector of Capcom is created and with it, the mainstreaming of an entirely new genre, survival horror. Through the success of Mikami's first title, Resident Evil, Capcom roared back to number one in the gaming industry and set ablaze the interest for gore and suspense, horror and action.

Since then, a revised Director's Cut edition has entered the market, along with three sequels and a prequel in the making. Even today, some consider Resident Evil to be the best videogame of the '90's and arguably so. Countless knock-offs and a whole industry has been built on the legacy of one game, and a simple principle- scare the gamer.
