Light

She presses her shoulders
back into the stone, huddling up to get out of the wind. The breeze pulls a few
strands of hair across her face and she pushes them away. On the horizon she
can see a lightening, stars fading into misty grey.
She repins
her hair, checking for tell-tale moss and pushes herself to stand, brushing
down her well-worn combats and standard-issue shirt. The light won’t find her
huddled, won’t find her weak. She’ll be their princess and their leader and the
light will keep her sane until the night.
She does her crying in the
dark.
