Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind - 2004 (R) Actors: Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood Director: Michel Gondry Reviewed: 20 October 2004 This movie is a love story. I'll get that out of the way right now. I hate love stories. But this one was worth it. I hadn't really seen Jim Carrey in any serious roles until this one, and now I'm surprised he hasn't done more (Truman Show doesn't count). The movie centers around a new procedure wherein technicians can go into someone's mind and erase select memories at the patients' discresion. Carrey and Winslet have a turbulent relationship which finally leads the eccentric Winslet to erase Carrey from her mind. When Carrey finds out he decides to erase her as well, but midway through the procedure he decides he wants to remember her, and the viewers are tossed through a whirlpool of blending memories as he tries to save her. This is compounded by the technicians, who let their personal lives distract them while Carrey is undergoing all of this. Wackiness ensues, both real and subconcious. There are several excellent parts, but its rather easy to guess most (not all) of the twists, especially in the second half. It won't make you cry, but it might make you think. Not too hard, though. Go rent it. SCORE: 8/10 GOOD QUOTES -Constantly talking isn't necessarily communicating. -Blessed are the forgetful, for they get the better even of their blunders. BAD QUOTES -Sometimes I don't think people realize how lonely it is to be a kid.
