The Big Lebowski - 1998 (R) Actors: Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi Director: Joel Coen Reviewed: 26 May 2005 This movie is absolutely hilarious. It's one of my favorite comedies, and with good reason. It's about The Dude, a bum who is on a bowling team with his best friend Walter. Dude's real name is Jeff Lebowski, and one day two thugs show up at his house demanding "the money!". Now, elsewhere in the city, there is a rich, powerful, Big Lebowski, also named Jeff. He is the one who owes the money, but Dude is the one who gets ransacked. Dude goes to the Big Lebowski demanding payback, and the plot takes off. This movie has some of the funniest scenes ever, both physical and verbal. John Goodman as Walter almost steals the movie, playing a Nam veteran who is a bit far removed from reality. The unlikelihood of any of this movie happening is what makes it so funny, and all throughout the Dude is laid back, relaxed, and careless. Jeff Bridges is similarly hilarious, acting in his low-key, monotone voice. The eccentric characters carry the story well, and what a great story it is. If you have an ear for some verbal humor, there's a lot to catch in this film. There is also a lot to like. Go see it; you'll laugh yourself out of your chair. SCORE: 10/10 GOOD QUOTE -Jesus Walter, you bring a fucking gun bowling? -You said it man. Nobody fucks with the Jesus. -He thinks the carpet pissers did this? -You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know... -Smokey, this is not 'Nam. This is bowling. There are rules. -I myself dabbled in pacifism once. Not in 'Nam of course. BAD QUOTE -She's not my special lady friend, man. I'm just helping her conceive. -Of course the car made it home, you're calling me at home!
