| Hooking Up Your PlayStation 2 Ready to get your PlayStation 2 online and ready to play? Here's a list of items you'll need to get started: 8 MB PlayStation 2 memory card with at least 137 kb free PlayStation 2 Network Adaptor Phone cord or ethernet cable long enough to reach phone socket or network hub One of our online-enabled PlayStation 2 games: Medal of Honor Rising Sun, The Sims Bustin' Out, Need for Speed Underground, or The Lord of the Rings; The Return of the King. Step 1: Unplug your PlayStation 2 then remove the expansion bay cover from the rear of your console. After removing, keep the cover in a safe place for future use. Step 2: Plug the Network Adaptor into the back of your console. Fasten the Network Adaptor to the console by turning the mounting screws in a clockwise direction using a coin. Do not over tighten. If you're using a dial up modem then plug your modem line into the left connector labeled "LINE" on the Network Adaptor. If you're using a cable/DSL modem, remove the sticker covering the network connector on the Network Adaptor and plug your Ethernet cable into the connector labeled "NETWORK". Plug your console into an electrical outlet. Step 3: This is the start up disc that came with your adaptor. Insert the disk into the PlayStation 2 to continue the installation process. Note: You'll need a Memory Card (8MB) (for PlayStation 2) in slot 1 with at least 137kb of free space to save your network settings. Step 4: After inserting the disc you will be asked which type of connection setup you have. On the Main Menu, select ISP SETUP, then select NEW NETWORK SETTING, and press the X button on your controller. If your Network Adaptor has been installed properly you will see the notice, "Found network adaptor". Press the X button to continue to Network Adaptor Registration. Step 5: The registration process begins with you entering your age. Enter your age using the on-screen keypad. When you are finished, select ENTER and press the X button. Step 6: Using the on-screen keyboard, enter your first name, last name, birth date, and e-mail address. After you have finished entering each line, select ENTER on the on-screen keyboard and press the X button to continue. Press the X button to save your registration to your Memory Card (8MB) (for PlayStation2). Step 7: After entering your personal information, the Network Adaptor requires some specific information regarding your Internet Service Provider. You will be asked to create a name for this configuration that will be saved on your memory card. Step 8: Using the on-screen keyboard, enter a name for your new network configuration and press the X button. This name should represent where or how you will use this connection (i.e. home, office, modem, etc.). Step 9: On this screen, highlight High Speed Connection (Cable or DSL) and press the X button or select dial up modem depending on which connection you are using. We will follow the process using the High Speed Connection. Step 10: Continuing on with the broadband settings, you will now be asked if you would like to use automatic or manual settings. For most users the automatic settings will work fine, however some users may need to enter settings specific to your network. If you try automatic settings and encounter problems, try to enter your network information manually. If you use manual settings, continue on to screen 11. If you use automatic settings, skip to screen 12. Step 11: Once again, only atypical users (those with static IP addresses) should need to input settings manually. Using the on-screen keyboard, enter your IP Address, Netmask, Default Router Address, Primary and Secondary DNS Addresses. (You may need to contact your ISP for some of this information). Highlight ENTER and press the X button when you are done. The Network Adaptor will test the connection. Once a connection has been established, press the X button to save to your Memory Card. Step 12: You will now be asked to select whether your ISP requires a User ID and Password. Generally, DSL users will require a User ID and Password and Cable users will not. Users with a DSL router that provides an always-on connection should not have to provide a User ID or Password. If you do need to, create and enter in a User ID and Password. Once you have entered both and verified the password, press the X button. The Network Adaptor will test the connection. Once a connection has been established, press the X button to save to your Memory Card. Step 13: If you do not need to enter a User ID or Password, you will be asked if you need to enter a DHCP Host Name (This information can be obtained from your Internet Service Provider). Once finished, press the X button. The Network Adaptor will test the connection. Once a connection has been established, press the X button to save to your Memory Card. Step 14: This should complete your Network Adaptor setup and you are now ready to begin online gaming! Remember to look for the connection name that you created in step 8 when you enter the game and try to go online. |
