A very successful period of our history in expanding our membership. The first team had finally reached the 1st division and most of the top juniors in Liverpool of that era were playing at the club on Saturday nights. A third team was entered into the league and once again was full of talented young players who went on to play in the first division. Many of them went to other clubs as they became frustrated that they could not move up the teams at Hilltop due to the fact that there were no older players above them ready to make way.
A feature of this period was friendly matches at junior level against Southport Badminton Club, one of the top clubs in the County, and a visiting party from Kent.
However, a financial crisis caused by the rocketing cost of shuttles at this time and regular increases of the court hire by the local council meant that we could no longer afford to stay at Kirkby.
