Rob Hilliard Clarinet and Soprano Saxophone |
||||||||||||
Rob Hilliard joins Electric Park's front line on clarinet and soprano sax. Rob, a native Washingtonian, grew up in Aberdeen listening to his parents' record collection and the great old music in movies, cartoons, and variety shows. His parents and grandmother taught him to play hymns and other tunes on the piano, and by fifth grade he was playing his father's clarinet in the grade school band. As a young musician, Rob played clarinet in band concerts at Disneyland and Expo '70 in Osaka, Japan with the All American Youth Honor Musicians, and at various Northern European cities with the Aberdeen High School Band. As a member of the Aberdeen Elk's National Concert Band #593, he has played clarinet, sax, and piano at Elk's National Conventions across the USA. Around the Aberdeen area, he has played clarinet, tenor sax and keyboards for the past twenty-five years with the Harbor Lights dance quartet. Rob has been a familiar face on the Dixieland Jazz Festival scene for over twenty years. An original member of Hume Street Preservation Band #405, Rob has played numerous festivals in California, Connecticut, Montana, Missouri, Nevada, Oregon and Washington, plus Dixieland Jazz cruises to Mexico and to Hawaii, where he met his wife Margaret. Rob earns his living as a software engineer in Redmond. However, like his wife's license plate frame says, "Life without Music would be a Mistake." |
