Joe Baque
Piano
The amount of musical background and expertise Joe brought to the Electric Park Jazz Band when he joined in 1997 is too vast to put into a band resum! His career began in the 1930's when, as a 13 year old, he worked taverns in New York City with a small combo for $3.00 a night. During the 1940's he played background for everybody who was anybody. People like Louis Armstrong, Stan Getz, Coleman Hawkins, Frankie Newton, Ray Nance, and others. Baque resided in Greenwich Village until 1961. While there he often sat in at the famed Blue Note with the likes of Zoot Sims and Al Cohn. He also played at the Copacabana accompanying such legendary performers as Lena Horne.
While in New York City, Joe also played in bands at the Radio CityMusic Hall, the famed Roxy Theater, and Carnegie Hall. Throughout the 1960's, and continuing today, the bulk of Joe's work has been doing studio commercial recording.  Between 1982 and 1984 he was employed by the Holland America Cruise Lines to serve as Musical Director and orchestra leader with a variety of dance bands aboard the S.S.Rotterdam and the S.S. Royal Viking on three world cruises. Joe's educational background includes a B.A. in music and psychology from Empire State College in New York, private study with Josef Schmid, composer and student of Arnold Schoeberg and Alban Berg, and private advanced study with concert pianist Emil Friedberger.
Joe can be found on almost any given weekend, playing with this or that combo, or going solo, at various clubs trhoughout the Puget Sound Area.  In the little free time he has, Joe enjoys spending time with wife Carol, and their son, John.
