also known as The Key Of Tourenbourg

Director: Chuck Liotta

Writer:Dick Robbins and Duane Poole

Guest Cast:

Glitter Rock: John Mark Robinson

Side Man: Michael Blodget

King Alex the 10th: Jeff David

With a well-developed narrative, we are taken to an abandoned theatre, where Glitter Rock is introduces his latest song creation, "Take Over The World" to his sidekick "SideMan".

Meanwhile, the girls are playing hostess to their guest, King Alex the 10th of Tourenbourg. He is Lori's old classmate, and is attending their class reunion. After talking about his desire to see some American Rock, Judy pours over his talisman, the Key Of Tourenbourg. "Whoever posses the Key rules," Alex tells Judy. "Just imagine if that fell into the wrong hands!" Responds Lori. As if on cue, the girls ditch Alex to respond to a low priority signal from Frank.

At crimescope, our relaxed heroines find enjoyment from Frank's latest invention, the electravibe. Meanwhile, SideMan shows up at the house pretending to be a limo driver, and delivers an invitation to a command performance. Foolishly, the King accepts. The girls return to find just an invitation featuring glitter, our villain's signature. Realizing that Alex is in great danger, they electrachange and hop into the electracar in pursuit.

At the empty theatre, Alex realizes his mistake too late. He is hypnotized by Glitter Rock's guitar playing, and gives his Key to the villain just as the Voltage Vixens arrive. DynaGirl uses her electrabeam to knock the guitar out of Glitter Rock's hands. He runs away as they check on the recovering King. Telling him to stay put, they pursue the villain. Using the electratrack, they are on hot pursuit. But Glitter Rock's guitar solo starts to make them halucinate, as they become disoriented.

Glitter Rock turns on his booby trap, which is triggered by an electic eye. Crimescope detects this as the girls duck in time. But our King has followed them, and he triggers the device. Two doors trap the trio in the hallway, and start to move towards each other like a trash compactor. The cool ElectraWoman, always quick to think, figures out that the new electravibe should get them out of this. But Glitter Rock watching this taunts them about having used his own alloy, Glitteranium. This seems to block out the electrasignal. The episode ends with the three off them quickly running out of room.

Part 2

Franks works on getting crimescope's signal through the alloy, as ElectraWoman realizes that they should target the electric eye. With inches to spare, they break the eye, immediately releasing the walls. But Glitter Rock is unconcerned about our heroines and the King getting away. When Side Man wants to go to Tourenbourg to take over the country, the villain indicates that he has bigger plans.

Having dropped Alex off at the house, ElectraWoman and DynaGirl return to electrabase. There Frank informs them that not only is Glitter Rock still at the theatre, but that crimescope detects space equipment. The heroines return, as the evil musician shows SideMan his control panels for his satallite. Powered by the Tourenbourg crystal, the space vehicle will orbit the Earth so he can broadcast his music all over, allowing him to take over the world.

As the heroines return to the theatre, they interrupt Glitter Rock's countdown. But he picks up his guitar and puts them under another hallucination. This time, they begin to climb up the stage ladders, up onto the catwalk. But Alex just can't stay put. He returns to the theatre just as out tripped out heroines are about to jump. He yells, disconnects a speaker, as ElectraWoman shouts out "electradegravitate." Dazed and confused, they get their barrings, as a persistent King Alex gets ElectraWoman to agree to his coming with them.
The confront the villains just as the ship blasts off. Indeed they are laughing even as they are captured in the electraforceshields. Glitter Rock informs the heroines of his plans. Dynagirl gives her electracomp to King Alex as the girls return to the electracar. They convert into the electraplane, and fly into the upper atmosphere. With no time to lose an barely in range, DynaGirl destroys the satallite with her electrabeam. Back at Crimescope, Lori and Judy gloat over the capture of Glitter Rock and Side Man as Judy shows Frank a picture of them in jail.

Great Camp Moments:

When they walk under the electric eye, it would seem that Deidre's big hair would have set it off.

Glitter Rock whenever he sets his hypnotic guitar in action.

The whole wall crushing trap.

The jump and landing off the catwalk.

The superelectraboost sequence.

ElectraWoman saying "Just imagine if that fell into the wrong hands."

Electragagits:

Electraplane

Electrabeam

Electraforcesheild

Electravibe

Electradegravitate

Sensorscan

Crimescope's tracking device

SuperElectraBoost

ElectraCar on Direct Drive

DynaGirl's Best Lines:

Electratight - Electraterrific - Electrawow - "I his stuff ever makes it to the Top 40, we're all in big trouble."
This is also the first time they use these wonderful lines: DynaGirl "You don't think?" ElectraWoman"There's no time to think!"

Missing Scenes:

Part 1 is close to complete. When SideMan gives the invitation to the King. In Part 2, there is a chunk missing. ElectraWoman and DynaGirl come down the elevator into the electrabase after dropping off Alex. How did they drop him off? Did he guess who they are?

Mistakes:

ElectraWoman to Alex "Stay put this time" after the first time Alex leaves the house.

DynaGirl says "Electric Woman" after Alex trips the walls.

Side Man expects a high five back from Glitter Rock as the walls are closing in.

Where does DynaGirl get her electracomp from when she destroys the satallite? Didn't she give it to Alex?

Review:

I rate Glitter Rock tied for fourth on my list. This is the first episode I recommend to other superhero live action fans. It features a totally original villain. Glitter Rock's connection to Glam Rock is unique. His hypnotic abilities with his guitar echoes the tripping and loss of control with LSD. When Glitter got the girls to climb up onto the catwalk, it seemed just like the stories I was told in health class about people killing themselves while on drugs.

High notes in the episode are Glitter Rock, Frank's hungover look, and Deidre's charmingly cool performance as Lori.

King Alex could have been stronger. The shots are pretty good, yet they still seem shy with the wide angle.

Of note is the lack of material for Judy/DynaGirl. Maybe this makes up her dominating Episode 1, but so much of the time she seems in the background, given lines to fill in the action. Also notice that she is no longer as vulnerable as Episode 1. She is limited to the wise cracking lines.

While this is the second episode broadcast, I suspect it was shot later. The performances of Norman, Deidre, and Judy hit the mark at all times. And the Empress of Evil starts with an introductory narrative, so I suspect that was actually filmed second, and that this was shot after Ali Baba.

Indeed, the reason this rates so low in my opinion is that the later shows' scripts, directions, and shots get better.

ElectraWoman's Big Hair rating: 8 split hairs.(10 split hairs as Lori)
DynaGirl's Perky Rating: 6 out of 10 Pig Tail bounces.
Overall show rating: Tie for 5th (with Empress Of Evil) out of the 8 complete episodes.

16 Episode Rankings: #3 -7 , #4 -12 .
