As a candidate for election to the CUSD Board of Education, I pledge to seek support from the Board of Education for changes in current District policy and/or behavior. I have concerns regarding the current labor dispute between the District and the Capistrano Unified Education Association. My concerns relate to budgeting practices and spending priorities. As a Board member, I will strive to ensure that teacher salaries are at the same high level as the current student achievement level in the school district!

California's new and rigorous standards require more from our students. The public has every right to expect the same high standards from the CUSD Board of Education. That is why I am running for the school board.

The role of a school board member is to establish a vision for the community's schools that reflects a consensus of the board, community and district staff. As your representative on the CUSD Board of Trustees I will do this.

The School Site Council plays a key role in a school's success. Schools that receive School Improvement Program funding from the state are required to establish a local School Site Council. The council, whose members are parents, teachers and the principal, offer advice for instructional program planning, implementation and evaluation. Training for council members is available. The council develops a written plan to define instructional goals for the school. The implementation of the written plan is evaluated every three or four years by a team of educators representing the state Department of Education.
