Ziggy Stardust was a character created in the early 70s, and killed off shortly afterwards. We think that the regret of this action is what created Aladdin Sane, but we can't prove this.
This eara was the most successful of Bowie's career, and thousands of screaming girls fell in love with him, as did thousands of sort of screaming boys. David Bowie is a very sexy man. Im my opinion Ziggy was not. Well he was a space alien. Is Ziggy Stardust better known than David Bowie? Yes! Well atleast there's only one way of saying Ziggy Stardust. It's one of those names that people just know, and usually know nothing about, like Iggy Pop and Ringo Starr, though most people figure out who Ringo Starr was (is) by their 10th birthday (they learn about him in school)(how insulting. Mummy do you know who Ringo Starr was? yes darling, I went to see him in concert once. Did you know any dinosaurs then Mummy?) But teachers don't tend to tell you about Ziggy Stardust, mainly because most of them are to old to know anything about them (e.g. my father who is nearly as old as Mr Bowie himself.)
The music of Ziggy Stardust is not as good as much of the rest of Bowie. The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars was not the best album, but it is probably the best well known, featuring Rock and Roll Suicide, Starman and Ziggy Stardust the song.

And then there is the cover of the album. We have been there. Its just a street in London, and the phone box has gone, and been replaced by one exactly the same at Bowie's request. Yes we've been there, taken our photos in suitable Ziggy poses and come home to find that the photos didnt come out properly. O what a shame we will have to go again, except Choz says that she's grown out of Bowie (mm! that does meant that she has grown into all things vampires, which kinda doesn't work) and I cant be bothered to get organised enough to go, so maybe one day we'll go, or maybe not.
Anyway it's all trendy now with little cafe's and deost really look anything like it. It's just off Oxford Street, and odd little Ziggy fans throughout the Web have drawn cute little maps to it from Oxford Circus tube station. How sweet.

Rock and Roll Suicide however is a really fantastic song. We want to know if Angie was telling the truth when she said that "Give me your hands" was her idea? grrr. Shattering our illusions of one perfect Bowie writting all the songs.
Well, this song is soooo fantastic because it gets to you so much. It's all in the second person. Its all about you, and you love it. The emotion sort of rolls over you and into you, and your singing just as pasionately as Ziggy does on stage. I wish I played a brass instrument just so I could be part of those chords, even if I'm just playing along to the CD. Yes we love you Bowie. "Me, me, me," etc and all that.
