So, I bought Hours, and Ive listened to it a couple of times, and yeah I like it. Its different again to Bowie's other albums, but I was quite dissapointed to find that Bowie didnt write a single song on his own, but then again he did co-write every single song with Tin Machine guitarist Reeves Gabrels, and "What's really happening was co written by theabove and someone called Alex Grant, who I have to admit I know absolutely nothing about

My favourite song from this album is still as yet undecided. Its quite hard to dislike any particular David Bowie song (except some 80s ones I have been told.) I like "if Im dreaming my life," because, well I dont really know, I like the little harmonies thrown in here and there, or most places. I also like Thursday's Child. However jealous I am of Holly Palmer, and however much I think I could have done her job sooo easily on Bowie at the Beeb, (her with her classroom instruments,) I have to admit, she does have a good voice. I would like to do her job, but I have to admit I wouldnt have done that part half as well as she did.
But "hours" on the whole is sadly lacking as Bowie's albums go. Maybe he lost it, but the songs themselves are quite good. He seems to have been using as few musicians as he could, and the album does not include any work from the amazing and fantastic Mike Garson, or the very talented and annoyingly cool Gail Ann Dorsey. There probably just arent enough piano parts for Mike, but all the bass parts are played by Mark Platt, who also plays guitars, synth and other odd electric things. While this does probably make perfect sense financially, I think that Bowie's albums tend to worsen without Mike Garson, (ie most stuff after Diamond Dogs and before Outside are less good than others.) This is just my humble opinion however, and like I said the songs are good, they just seem to lack the interestingness of other more origainal Bowie albums.
Though I prefer the live versions of both Seven and Survive, The Pretty Things are going to Hell is pretty cool, and most of the pics on this page are pretty cool, especially the one to the right, which is hilarious and wonderful, if slightly terrifying. And at least the whole album was before the beard happened really! Anyway, enjoy the pics o my beautiful imagineary readers, and do not be put off buying the album. At least this page has shown one thing, I am not so bessoted with the wonderful Mr Bowie, to just love everything he does!
