Wherefore, brethren, seek not to counsel the Lord, but to take counsel from his hand. For behold, ye yourselves know that he counseleth in wisdom, and in justice, and in great mercy, over all his works.
Jacob 4:10

It's funny -- I don't have a single complaint, concern or crisis in my life right now...which makes it very hard to think of something to write about. School's started again, and I can tell that something is very different. I feel different. Everything seems to be going my way, and not just in school. At work and privately, I'm changing. I feel happier, calmer, and more confident. I see amazing blessings every day, and I'm quickly exceeding goals and expectations. Not a single bit of it is me, I know, and I guess the key is just to keep knowing that.
I chose this week's scripture because it's a message that has shown up frequently in my life during the last week. In scriptures, in church, at priesthood meetings, and even speaking to my brother, these same words have continually presented themselves. While I'm not sure what meaning they might have for me right now, they have led me to ponder different aspects of my life. Among other things, I've been considering those areas in my life where I have trouble giving my will over to the Lord. I'm realizing that there are times when I haven't been able to hear answers to my prayers because I haven't been able to allow room in my mind for any answer except the one I want to hear -- even when I'm pretty sure that it isn't the right answer. It reminds me of a talk Elder Maxwell gave a short time ago about the obstacles to true discipleship, among which are often those aspects of our life we are unwilling to give up. He suggested that often what we need is not an answer from the Lord, but resolve to follow the answer we have already received.
Easier said than done, but I have hope. The Lord's blessing me in so many other things, and any lesson He has to teach me will present itself when the time is right, as well as the answers. I look forward to learning.
