February 19, 2008
Houston was, in fact, not closed. I found out Thursday night just
before transfers. Too bad we threw out all the perishables....
Apparently they had an extra missionary coming, and they had enough
to keep Houston open. However, the Winona elders got the car. I dunno
what'll happen to Houston, but I hope things take off. It seemed to
be starting to just before we left.
Centerton is pretty much a part of Wal-Mart land (we passed the
headquarters on the way to the library--they have a big marquee sign
that tells you how much they've saved families, somewhere around $38
billion). The ward is huge, full of relatively young families (with 0
to 4+ kids), who pretty much work for Wal-Mart. It's all a bunch of
residential areas with cookie-cutter homes. I feel pretty lost. So
far, I haven't seen any Marshallese up here. The ward is way helpful
with missionary work - we have a dinner pretty much every night. On
the Dinner Calendar, February is packed--not a single blank.
In the way of investigators, we don't have an enormous amount (as far
as I know). Apparently it's kind of tough in this area--it's pretty
small. But we do have an awsome investigator - Andre, from Poland.
He's been in the US for quite some time. He takes care of in-house
patients. All he really needs at this point is a baptismal interview,
and he's ready to be baptized next Sunday. He's a way good cook, and
a way nice guy. He always has a story. Last night we had dinner and
an FHE lesson with the Poyfairs.
My companion is Elder Goold, from Draper. He gave my bike a tune-up
and fixed a couple of things. He's in the Air Force, and went to Utah
State. Yeah, I'm back on the bike again. Hopefully I'll lose some
weight. I gained a ton in Houston. I need to get back into shape. I'm
not too out of it, but my legs were burning yesterday.
Oh, you'll probably be wanting my new address. It's: 625 Sadie Lane; Centerton, AR 72719. Our apartment is a bit small, but it has it's
own washer and dryer. Of course, it's on the 2nd floor. We keep our
bikes outside, chained to a light pole, since we don't have enough
room.
I sent a package home just before I left Houston. Let me know when it
gets there. It took a while to send it, since we had an ice storm and
the power kept going out. Our power was out all night last Monday,
and all day Tuesday. I took a couple of pictures for your viewing
pleasure. Speaking of packages, with the next one that you send, Mom,
add in some creamed honey--I'm out. The clothes are holding up just
fine. I'm not sure about my shoes, but I'll let you know. I may just
buy a cheap pair from Wal-Mart for my last 6 months.
Well, I'd better send this off. See ya'll later!
