Happy Birthday Cindy!!!!!!!!!
Our weather has been rather interesting. On Tuesday, it was pretty
warm, but it ended up dropping at least 30ยบ in 30 hours - tornado
weather. Apparently most of the storms were south of us, though. But
nobody was really out. After that it stayed pretty cold. On Thursday
we had a snow storm - about 3 inches here. Everyone was freaking out
about it. They even canceled school in anticipation of the storm. We
had a district meeting here in Houston, with President Seal coming
for interviews. Apparently a lot of the members were worried they
wouldn't be able to get out of their driveways. But, we all made it,
and we all returned safely. I ended up going back to Winona for
exchanges. It was enjoyable to see the work that is now going on down
there. It's really taking off!
We've had an interesting weekend. We watched President Hinkley's
funeral in the library at the church on Saturday, and then went to
another funeral for a member in the branch that passed away. Elder
Gregory noticed a less-active that we've been trying to get to come
to church there. Later, we tried a potential investigator, and were
able to teach them about the Restoration. Scott was raised Catholic,
and then went Baptist, but he doesn't believe that any church has all
the truth. Wendy was less talkative, but they both seemed to be way
open, and not necessarily affiliated with any church. Scott pointed
out that, with Pentacostals, the "Spirit" always seems to be there
from 9 AM to 9:50 AM, during church services, but it never comes at,
say, 2:30 PM on Thursday at Wal-Mart. He thought it was rather
interesting, to say the least. So, they agreed to read and pray.
We're going back on Wednesday.
When we got home, there was a message on our machine from the
less-active that attended the funeral. We called her back, and she
asked us when we could come out and teach her a lesson. We were
pretty dumb-founded! That just isn't likely to happen - someone
calling you and asking for a lesson! So, we're seeing her tonight.
Later, on Sunday, we stopped by another less-active that was active
about 3 months ago. He was defensive right off the bat. He said that
he found another church, and that he wasn't going back. When we asked
him why, he said that it was "boring." We could tell this wasn't the
real reason, though. He wanted his name off the list. It really hurts
when people you know, even not for very long, apostatize from the
church. But we must move on.
Well, Sunday it got really misty, and now all the snow is gone, and
it's warm again. One thing they say about weather in the Midwest: if
you don't like it, stick around for a bit, 'cause it'll change. Now
the Taylors' drive way should be clear, so we'll give them a call
later today.
President Seal said that he wants to send me back to Marshallese, but
I need to step it up more. Apparently, they're trying to get a small
Marshallese branch down in Springdale going. President Seal is hoping
to send me back within 3 months from now. Which reminds me - transfer
calls are this Saturday. I'll let you know where I'm going next week.
Starting next week, send all mail to the mission office in Tulsa. If
I'm leaving Houston, I'll be leaving Feb 15th.
Anyway, I can't think of anything more to add, so I guess I'll be
going. 'Till next week! (I wonder what that fragment of a sentance
means, anyway....)
