I've been trying to eat healthier, so I decided to try something healthy
and cheap for breakfast: whole wheat pancakes. I bought eggs, milk,
and whole wheat flour. I forgot to buy baking soda, but I found out
I like it without the baking soda more. I decided that they're not
pancakes, so I decided to call them wheat bricks. I threw in some
cocoa I found in one of the cupboards a couple times:
chocolate wheat bricks. I've gotten them down pretty well after two
weeks. I can even cook them without butter, and flip them in the
pan pretty well.
Ashely's doing very well. We set a baptismal date with her: September
15th. She just needs to quit smoking. Apparently her husband stole her
Book of Mormon, and has been reading it. He believes is true, and he
wants to talk to us and go to church, but he's "shy" about talking to
us (Ashley says he hates people, which I can relate to sometimes),
and he feels that church would just be too boring. Well, we'll see
what happens.
A member at church bought a box of "The Testaments" and handed them out
for people to give to their friends, so I grabbed a copy for Ashley.
Apparently her ex-husband wants to talk to us, her mom is getting
interested (a wiccan priestess - we'll see how that one goes), and
her little sister wants to come to church. Looks like there could
come a lot from this.
We had a Marshallese investigator come to church: Terry. He was
taught in the Marshall Islands, and he believes that Joseph Smith
was a prophet. He only showed up for priesthood (we want them to
come to sacrament meeting), but it's a first for me.
So, here's what's happening with transfers this Friday: Elder Albert
is going to Lebanon, Misouri to do mostly English work. Well, all
English work, but there's a few Marshallese up there, apparently.
Elder Jaynes is going to Mountain Home, Arkanasas, to be district
leader. I'm giving him a hard time about that one. He's out of the
Marshallese program. Elder Valai-Tufuga will be going to Carthage,
Missouri.Elder Kaneko and I will be focusing soley on Marshallese
work for the next six weeks. Elder Greer will be staying for Spanish work.
We're getting to missionaries from elsewhere for English work. If
the Marshallese work picks up, then I'll probably stay. If not,
the program is going to be dropped for a time.I have no idea what
will happen after these six weeks, but I do know that it will put
me in Springdale for 7.5 months, and one week away from my one-year
anniversary. So, I will have lived in Arkansas for about another
year. Honestly, I just don't know if I can stand much of another
suitcoat season, but we'll see.
We've had some rain during the weekends that has kept things pretty
cool. Looks like we're back in the 90s, but it'll drop to 80s by the
end of the week. Thank goodness.
I seem to be doing a little better at Marshallese. I was able to find a
bound morpheme that extends the meaning of the preceding morpheme.
For example: jela means "know", and jelalokjen means something like
"knowledge"; jaje means "don't know," and jajelokjen means "ignorant";
lo means "see," and "lolokjen" means something like "vision."
It's pretty cool for me to be able to do that. But anyway, I still
can't really understand people, but I am able to read better.
So, not much more to say. That's about the most that's going on right
now in my life, except they're re-painting the parking lot lines in our
apartment complex, so we've gotta find another place to park tomorrow.
See you next week!
