Today we don't have a lot of time for e-mailing. We still need to go
shopping, wash and wax the car, and at 2 pm we're going to the police
academy with Brother Turnbough. Too bad we can't shoot any firearms,
but we get to see those going through the academy. We're also going
to get our backgrounds checked. I'll let you know of there are any
warrents out for my arrest....
I'm not sure how things are going with Ashley. She revealed to us
that her husband is abusive and she's been considering divorce. On
Friday night she packed a suitcase to stay with her grandma in
Missouri, and her husband got angry and beat her Saturday morning,
and took off to Fayetteville with the car. She called us at about
noon, and we were able to get her over to a members house. She told
us she would come to church, though. She ended up going to
Fayetteville to get her car Saturday night, and stayed there with her
husband and his cousin, and a new member that moved in let us know on
Sunday afternoon that her car was back at her apartment (she didn't
come to church). I talked with Brother Pena about what to do (a
fellow police officer), and ultimately it's up to Ashley. The police
have resources to help her, but she has to call them. I'm going to
stop by tomorrow and see how she's doing. I'm not sure what will
happen.
In the way of other investigators, no Marshallese investigators came
to church. But we have found a couple of new English investigators
that seem promising.
We've had some rain the past couple of days that dropped the
temperature way down. It's been really nice. Oh, and on Saturday
night, we had dinner with the Evans family, the Scott family, and the
Dias family. Brother Evans went to Brazil on his mission, and Brother
and Sister Dias are from Brazil, so they had a big party (don't
remember the name of it) with Brasilian food. It was way good!
Transfers are in a couple of weeks. I'll know where I'm going by next
Monday, and let you know. I have a suspicion that I might stay here
for another 6 weeks, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, time to get going. See you all next week!
