Since you didn’t seem to get last week’s letter, I’ll send it
again (luckily MyLDSMail makes a copy of things I send!).
We finally got an investigator to church! Ashley was picked up by
some members, and she said that she loved Church! Her daughter even
had a good time. It was a good fast and testimony meeting. Most
people had gone to the temple and had gotten back the night before,
so she had a question as to what the temple was when we taught her
later yesterday. She’s read up to 1 Nephi 11, and said “Yes” to
the baptismal commitment. We’re going to set a baptismal date soon,
but we really want to get her husband Harley to come and listen to
what we have to share. He’s still having a difficult time getting
over the death of his 7-week-old son way back in December, and
doesn’t seem to do much. Ashley almost got him to come to church,
and he told her to ask us if we can find him work, so we’ll be
making a few phone calls tonight. I don’t doubt that Ashley will be
baptized, but we need to get Harley too.
We tried to set a baptismal date with Amlain, but she felt like she
wasn’t quite ready. She didn’t come to church, either. I’m not
sure how to get these Marshallese out to church. We had a time change
this week, too, so now we’re meeting at 9 AM instead of 1 PM.
Apparently, when they switched from 9 AM to 1 PM last time, they
thought that they would get more Marshallese to church, but it
didn’t change much. I’m not sure what will happen after this
transfer (which ends the beginning of September), but hopefully I’m
here for a while so that I can see Ashley and Sandra Casso baptized.
Maybe something will pick up, I dunno. But I doubt President Seal is
going to just give up with the Marshallese work, especially when he
has two native Marshallese here. I’d expect him to have just one
Marshallese companionship here, and switch Elder Kaneko and Elder
Albert in and out.
Anyway, I can feel the time counting down to my 1-year anniversary. I
just realized that at the beginning of next year, I’ll be in the
single digits! It’s quite odd: I don’t even remember much of what
happened while I was with Elder Jaynes.
That’s all I can think of. Thanks for everything!
