Happy Memorial Day!
Last week was pretty hectic! We had two exchanges and the Marshallese Celebration Day (which mostly turned out to be sports tournaments rather than a big fiesta). Elder Valai-Tafuga said that it was his worst week ever on his mission in the way of key indicators.
So, my Spanish is a bit better, but my Marshallese is going downhill…. Only two more weeks of Spanish work, and then I’ll have a native Marshallese missionary to train.
This week actually is looking worse than last week. We have three exchanges, a bunch of meetings mixed in, and a baptism on Saturday. Among all that, Elder Valai-Tafuga has to find an apartment and furnishings.
The baptism is Gabriel Laredo, a 9 year-old of a recent convert couple. He’s really smart. We also had two other Spanish investigators come to church. We’re getting a pretty good turnout for Spanish Gospel Essentials class. There appears to be some difficulty on the Marshallese side, though.
I found a really good dictionary at a garage sale. I not only has a dictionary with etymologies, but it also has synonyms, antonyms and homonyms, cross-word, medical, Bible, rhymes, music, legal, and scientific dictionaries, a section on US history, a section of famous quotes, and a gazetteer. I got it for $2.
The new Springdale Stake center is coming up pretty quickly. They’re now putting the roof on. They’re projecting the finish at sometime around the new yar. I also hear that the Oklahoma City temple is nearing maximum capacity. The word around the ward is that if the church needs another temple, they’ll build it in Bentonville, as they have some land available next to the stake center up there.
Which reminds me. I stopped by Andy’s Frozen Custard while I was in Rogers. It’s absolutely amazing. It’s like the perfect ice cream! It’s also across from the first Walmart ever built.
The last couple of weeks here have flown by. You go to church and the next thing you know, it’s Sunday again. Next week will probably fly by as well, then it’s one more week to training :-}.
See you all next week!
