Entry for May 21, 2007
I'm hoping my bike lasts me for the next month. Currently the
knocking noises it has been making have gotten worse, the rear tire
is a little wobbly (even with the outside nuts securely fastened),
and now it keeps trying to shift. I've been debating about taking it
to Springdale Bicycle, but I'm afraid that the guy is going to look
at me and ask: what did you do to this bike? If it lasts me for
another month, I will have used it for 1/3 of my mission--pretty good
for $130. I may end up buying me another one for my birthday. We'll
see. I'll have to look around when I get some time. I dunno if I'll
get another cheap Wal-Mart special or something that might last me
longer.
I've discovered the joy of yard sales. They have to things that
missionaries love: people to talk to, and cheap ties. Unfortunately,
there haven't been a lot of yardsales that have ties. But there are a
few thrift shops, and I ended up buying a Wal-Mart brand tie for $1.
Yeah, so Memorial Weekend is next Preparation Day, so I probably
won't be writing next week. I'll try and send out a handwritten
letter, and let my parents decipher my handwriting. Speaking of gas,
here it's up to $3.30 or so, and they're forecasting $4.00 by July.
Elder Fountain, who deals with all the car issues, said that he
doesn't know who owns his home anymore. I plan on buying a new bike
when I get home for transportation; especially if I go to Hawai'i for
school. Apparently Elder Jaynes's parents are considering looking at
a car that runs on natural gas. They already have it in their home,
and apparently you can get a setup where you fill up your car at
home. When I first got to Tulsa, it was $1.97. Gas prices, along with
a talk on emergency preparedness by our high councilman in Sacrament,
has really made me think about what to do in case an emergency
happens.
Anyway, on a much more happy note, we had three investigators and a
less-active family come to church. We also finally got a hold of
another investigator, who Elder Valai-Tufuga believes is a guaranteed
baptism. She just needs to come to church. We have a baptism
scheduled for June 2, for Gabriel Loredo, a 9-year old son of a
recent convert family. Elder Valai-Tufuga says we need to set a
couple more baptismal dates.
Oh. I found out that I have a cavity. Luckily they have a high
councilman who is a dentist, so he might be able to do it for free.
Anyway, I can't think of much more else to write, so I will see you
all in a week (or two...)!
