This Wednesday marks my 6-month mark. It's hard to believe that I've
been out here for 6 months. It seems more like 4.... It's been cold
lately, and we had a rainstorm on the 13th, and one some time before
that, but it seems to be warming up now.
By the way, my package did arrive at the mission office, but they
don't forward packages. Typically packages sent to the mission office
are given to elders through their zone leaders during exchanges, zone
conferences, or through President Seal when he comes for interviews.
So if you send me a package, it can take up to 6 weeks to get to me.
I should be getting my Easter package this Wednesday. I did get the
CDs. I might mention that a copy of BYU Young Ambassadors would be
nice. The black socks from Missionary Mall that are like $3/pair are
probably best. All of the others are wearing out, and end up going
AWOL on me while we're out, and end up bunching in the toes of my
shoes. It's really irritating.
We have some less-actives that are doing very well. Misty Sutton came
for two weeks in a row, which is really awsome, because her husband
usually works every other Sunday, and she's a bit uncomfortable
coming without her husband. But he worked this week, and she was at
sacrament meeting. The Samples are doing very well. They're having a
bit of family trouble, and still recovering from their motorcycle
accident back in January, but they've said that they've felt really
welcome in the ward. On Thursday night, we had dinner with them at a
members house, the Clunes, and they're hanging out together. On
Friday night, we had dinner at the Morris's with Sandra Cosso, and
it went really well. She enjoyed church and dinner on Friday, and the
Morris's even invited her over for Family Home Evening. She didn't
come to church. Apparently she had some family trouble or something,
I'm not sure what's going on. We'll give her a call sometime today.
The work on the Marshallese side is going a bit slower, along with
the language acquisition. It looks like Keniko Keniko will be here in
about a week and a half, but the other Marshallese missionary, Bill
Albert, will be in the MTC for another six weeks, so he won't be here
until early June. I'm not sure what will happen with the Spanish
side. It's possible we'll share the same apartment for 6 weeks until
Elder Albert gets here, in which case it will be the Spanish elders
in one companionship, and Elder Jaynes, Elder Keniko, and me in
another. Five elders in one apartment. It makes me think of a college
apartment...which means I'll inherit more junk as the Spanish Elders
come and go....
I'm trying to save money this month. A member gave us a bunch of
pinto beans, so I made a batch of chili, rather than buying some.
It's not bad for my first batch of chili, but...it's not that good
either.... Oh, and Brother Kaminaga and his wife took us out to
dinner on Wednesday. We went to the Red Dragon Buffet. They had some
amazing honey chicken, and some crab legs. They also had some tiny
octopi, which I debated about eating, but decided not to since
they're my favorite animal. I'm still waiting to try some Marshallese
food, but on May 29th they're having a 3-day celebration when
President Note from the Marshall Islands will visit. They'll
definitely have some food then!
I'd say let's go ahead and use a calling card for Mother's Day. I'll
probably call you later in the day (like around dinner). I think I
still have some time on the last card, but go ahead and send me one,
and I'll check how much time is on the one that I have.
Well, that's all for this week. Read your scriptures!
