I I CONGRÉS PER A L'ESTUDI DELS JUEUS EN TERRITORIS DE LLENGUA CATALANA

 

Barcelona & Cervera 25th, 26th and 27th October 2004

The objective of this congress is to appraise the current state of the study of the Jewish Presence in the Catalan-speaking areas. We aim to emphasize the independent, distinct identity of Catalan Judaism vis-à-vis the Sepharad by considering the main thematic areas in the development of Jewish culture in the Catalan-speaking territories, and to provide a forum for discussion and debate.

 
Venue

The Inauguration will be held in the town hall of Barcelona. The first and third day the congress will be celebrated in the Aula Magna of the University of Barcelona. The second day we will move to Cervera's city.

 
Lenguages

Communications may be given in any of the following languages: Catalan, Spanish, English, French.

 

Target Audience

The congress is aimed at all those interested in the study of Catalan Judaism.

 
Themes

The congress will be divided into five thematic areas: history, on the first day; literature and philosophy on the second; science and the Jewish community today on the third. The themes will be presented and debated in communications and discussion groups.

 
Complementary Activities

During the three days of the Congress, objects and books relaiting to the Jewish presence in Catalan-speaking Territories and to the Jewish world in general will be on offer.
