Pastor Bowen is a native of Georgia, he is the youngest of four children. He graduated from Wayne County High School in 1974 and relocated to Miami, Florida. He graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, specializing in counseling in April, 1986. He attended the "Sonshine Crusillio" in 1983 while residing in Miami.
In 1986, Pastor Bowen began theological studies at Trinity Lutheran Seminar, Columbus, Ohio, for the purpose of serving our Lord and His Church in the Ordained Ministry of Word and Sacrament. He served Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Columbus as a "Ministry in Context" student his first year at Trinity Seminary. During his first, second and fourth year in seminary he worked with Faith Mission, an urban ministry for the destitute. Pastor Bowen served his year of internship with the congregation of Genesis Lutheran Church, Detroit Michigan. He was awarded the degree of Master's of Divinity in June, 1990.
Having received a Letter of Call to serve Saint Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Akron, Ohio, he was ordained at Hope Lutheran Church, Miami, Florida on All Saints Sunday, Nov., 4th, 1990. The conferring bishop was Bishop Laverne Franzen, Synodical Bishop of Florida.
