Tallent's "Author
Week" began with the reading of "The Lorax" in honor of Dr. Seuss,
after whom the week was named.
Students met author and managing editor of the Elbert County News
Karen Kendig on March 2, Tallent said. The combined classes of
Tallent and Ellen Hall listened to the ups and downs of the writing
process, writing techniques and strategies.
The week-long celebration included local author and systems
administrator for the Douglas County Libraries, Julie Halverstadt.
She co-authored 100 Most Popular Business Leaders for Young Adults,
a collection of biographical sketches of today's successful
businessmen and women including Mrs. Fields, Paul Newman and Donald
Trump.
"The purpose of [100 Leaders] was to both inspire and inform
young people who are interested in business as a profession,"
Tallent said.
With thanks for the invitation to speak, Halverstadt presented a
copy of her book to the charter school library for the students'
future use in research.
