The following text is from The Daily News 12/30/03 "Longtime chief calls it a day."
By Scott DeSmit(Daily News Staff Writer) ELBA- Elba Volunteer Fire Department's first emergency call of 2004 will be unlike any other call it has handled in 13 years. No longer will Bill Hynes' raspy vioce come across the radio. His familiar red pick-up truck with the large red light bar across the top of the cab,, well it will still be there but it will be parked with other nondescript vehicles owned by volunteers.
And Hynes, who has commanded so many fire and accident scens that he can't recall how many, not even his first, will just be another dedicated firefighter taking orders. "It's going to be strange," said Jeremy Robinson, who takes over for Hynes as chief on Friday. "I've learned a lot from that man."
