We first visited Globe in October 2004. Globe, founded in the mid 19th century as a mining town, is located in the high desert country of eastern central Arizona. We were searching for a drier climate than the Pacific Northwest's legendary damp, and there was a nostalgic appeal about a small town. Carolyn said Globe looked like her own hometown 40 years ago when she was growing up.

A sign at the old Gila County Courthouse, which now houses the Cobre Valley center for the Arts, gives a brief history of Globe. Below is the text of the sign:
