Cooking Tips (December):
| When cooking noodles (especially dried noodles or instant noodles) in boiling water, always add in some salt as this will give some flavour to the noodles. Otherwise, you can only taste the soup base but the noodles blend. Don't forget to discard the water you use for boiling the noodles and run it through cold water so that the noodles won't get clumped together and elasticity remains. This will also ensure that the soup in the bowl of noodles you make is clear. |
Traditional Chinese New Year food served during Chinese New Year visiting does not includes modern day cookies, chocolate coakes, kuih lapis, etc. Things served traditional would be Radish cake, Yam cake, egg roll, sweet dessert pastes, preserved fruits and a variety of dried seeds (kua zi) and Chinese tea served. In Malaysia, we often serve a mix of food items from other races as well such as kuih lapis, bee hive crackers (Mat fong dao), a variety of cookies - pineapple tart, chashewnut cookies, peanut cookies, sweets, chocolates and more.
