Drawing has always been something I liked to do, though I'm still pretty bad at it. Below are some of my pictures, since I don't expect many people will look here, anyway. Right now all of the ones that are up were drawn using a graphics tablet. Click on the thumbnail to open the full-size version in a new window. In general, drawings are arranged from newest to oldest. (not responsible for loss of IQ points or artistic ability caused by viewing these images)
mistyhills
Title: Misty hills
Tools used: Photoshop 7
Time: An hour or so.
Comment/Self-Crit: Just some more simple experimenting with backgrounds. I kind of like the effect, but the whole pic's a bit boring.
barnowl
Title: Barn owl?
Tools used: Photoshop 7
Time: Several hours.
Comment/Self-Crit: This was supposed to be a barn owl...I didn't realize they were supposed to have dark eyes instead of bright yellowish or orange eyes like many other owls until I had already drawn them in. So I just left them. Something about the shape doesn't look right for a barn own, either, but oh, well. I like some of the coloring, but the light on the owl looks too bright for the background and the branch it's on sticks out too much. The background is more lazy PS leaf brush abuse, I'm afraid.
tiburon
Title: Inanimate object
Tools used: Photoshop 7
Time: 2-3 hours.
Comment/Self-Crit: Noel said that I should try drawing more "inanimate objects", as apparently all I ever draw is animals and people. Her suggestion was that I practice drawing a..table. I think this car is a much more interesting object. :D The shape isn't exactly accurate and I think some of the shading might be inconsistent, but it does resemble the car.
lioness
Title: Rawr.
Tools used: Photoshop 7
Time: About an hour.
Comment/Self-Crit: *gasp* A pose with an emotional expression + movement! I used a photo reference for scribbling out this lioness. I'm pleased with the way it turned out overall, though the legs look like they could be a tad short, and there are other little problems here and there.
Noel
Title: My sister
Tools used: Photoshop 7
Time: About two hours or so.
Comment/Self-Crit: I decided it was time to try drawing a head and actually making it look like someone. So I took a picture of Noel, and here we are. Either her eyes or her jaw need to be rotated slightly because I didn't set them all straight...but otherwise I don't think it's too rotten, and it actually looks like her to some extent. Except for, you know, the whole messed-up crooked thing.
deertrees
Title: Deer in Woods
Tools used: Photoshop 7
Time: Waaay too long. Like 6+ hours.
Comment/Self-Crit: I drew a background for once. It took forever, but I think that is the part I like best on this one. It's not perfect, but the lighting's about what I wanted. The deer is okay, better than the last ones I drew, but its pose and shape still seems to be wrong somehow. Stiff. And the expression looks unnatural. Oh, well.
gallop
Title: Horse
Tools used: Photoshop 7
Time: Two or three hours. I'm so slow...
Comment/Self-Crit: This turned out better than expected. I think I found a new style of shading I like..almost comic-style. The shading's not all consistent, but I think most of the proportions on this are fairly accurate. It would be better with a background, though...
evening
Title: Wallpaper: Starry Evening with Grass
Tools used: Photoshop 7, PhotoImpact 5
Time: 15-30 minutes.
Comment/Self-Crit: I wanted to change my wallpaper, so I tried making my own. It's mostly lazy computer rendering for the stars and clouds, and the grass is obvious abuse of Photoshop's grass brush. The composition could be improved, I'm sure. But I guess it's okay. This version was shrunk to 800x600; the original is 1024x768. Oh, and the sparkly stuff in the grass is supposed to be fireflies..
wolfmoon
Title: Wolf and moon
Tools used: Photoshop 7
Time: Four hours or so over several evenings.
Comment/Self-Crit: I thought this one was pretty good coming from me. I used a photo reference to help with the head shape, but nothing for the shading. But the fur looks too flat to me in some areas, particularly the chin and lower neck, and the mouth shape could probably be better. I guess I'm happy with more of it than I'm unhappy with..
head
Title: Girl portrait
Tools used: Photoshop 7, PhotoImpact 5
Time: Four hours(?) over several days
Comment/Self-Crit: This took way too long for how simple it is...the truth of the matter is that I never used to draw humans, and now that I'm practicing it, the results are pretty bad. I like some of this, but the eyes aren't shaped quite right, the eyebrows aren't either, and (the biggest problem) the brain cavity is too small. Waaay too small. It looks really dumb. So, it's too small... I liked the mouth, nose, jawline, and neck, though.
chet
Title: 'Chet
Tools used: Photoshop 7
Time: Half an hour to an hour.
Comment/Self-Crit: I scribbled this out when my cat was sleeping on my desk and had a characteristically sneaky look on her face. I like the way the scribbly style worked out, but most of the anatomy is lost in meaningless furlines. Not very good..
catleaves
Title: Cat with leaves
Tools used: Photoshop 7
Time: An hour or less.
Comment/Self-Crit: I think this one wasn't too bad, overall. The tree trunk and background are far from good, but the cat seems okay to me except for the back leg and maybe the shading under its belly. It looks wayy too happy..
eagle
Title: Colored Eagle
Tools used: Open Canvas 1.1
Time: Three to four hours over the course of several days.
Comment/Self-Crit: This one looks (relatively) good because I used a photo reference on it. I have to say that I like almost all of it, except that the feathers could use a little more detail and the eye highlight probably should have been done differently.
eaglebw
Title: B & W Eagle
Tools used: Open Canvas 1.1..I think..
Time: Probably around an hour.
Comment/Self-Crit: I think I had a photo reference for this one. I am somewhat pleased with the way it turned out, but the eye shape is definitely wrong and I think the beak may be too large.
