Why Tuition?

“... estimated $320 million a year on private tuition" Streats 21st Oct 2002
“Tuition is the biggest educational expense, said a recent Straits Times survey with a family spending an average of more than $1,600 a year"
Streats 21st Oct 2002

These are quotes from the papers evidently shows that education in Singapore plays an extremely important part of every Singaporean.
Parents emphasize alot on children educational needs to catch up with the number of increasing graduates. They now not only have to compete with one another but with China, India and many other countries. Singapore alone will have about 50% of each cohort obtaining a degree from the public, private or overseas Universities; compare to 20 years ago, there are only about 5% of each birth cohort in Singapore got into Universities.

Further more, home tuition provides a more concentrated effort of tutor and student, which will directly affect student's performance. Fewer students mean more attention for each child, which in turns, raise the quality of education and improve pupils' performance.

Here's a summary of results from each levels for 2003 and 2004. View..
