KUCHING Home Town
My hometown is Kuching, Sarawak, where I was living a glorious life as the youngest girl in my family. A beautiful city by a river, flanked by graceful mountain ranges and green plains. This city is situated at the eastern tip of the state of Sarawak, East Malaysia. It is a capital which houses about 13 million population. Although we are in the island of Borneo, and many people tend to have the impression that we are someone more barbaric, our state house a multinational community. About 70% of them Malay, 30% Chinese and other ethnic groups like Bidayuh, Iban, Kelabit, Melanau and so on.
Most life practices that are unique to each race can still be seen in our society today. Through many generations, the art of language, food, costume, and other informal or formal events are handed down to us. A few of them are described as follows:
Malay
The traditional houses are made of 'attap' or coconut/ palm leaves. Popular dishes like 'assam pedas', 'kurma' and 'rojak' are widely available in food centres here.
Chinese
'Cheongsam' is mostly worn by traditional Chinese women in China.
Entertainment
Damai Beach Resort is a popular holiday getaway for both local residents and tourists. The blue lagoon is built on Santubong beach, that will surely take you into a hideout from your the ooze and snooze of a city lifestyle.
