Pirate Avatar
Colored by Silvergray

Silvergray Comments: This painting was supposed to be finished a month ago. I kinda slacked off when R.S. was away :)
Anyway, R.S. gave me the honor of picking the color scheme for this painting. Usually he does it himself, or to be more precise: I let him do it. The reason for this is that the last time I chose the color scheme I ended up having to redo the whole thing. The thing is, R.S. is a lot better at color theory than I am. He pointed out to me the other day that it was ironic considering that I'm the project's colorist.
In order to solve the problem of having to color the whole thing and it turning out to be $#!% then having to do it again and again, I did thumbnails to work out the kinks instead. Then, I had R.S. approve the final thumbnail. He liked it, so I proceeded to do the final painting.
I can't really say much about the final painting except that White is a B!%(# to work with when making metalic objects. For some reason it always seems to come out plastic looking.
R.S. Comments: Although the white does seem quite plastic, it doesn't do anything to hamper the overall regal effect of the avatar. coulda used more gold, though. Didn't want to go with the traditional black and gold pirate theme. More like the good pirate theme like in Xenogears.
this pirate avatar was intended to have a pet parrot avatar (in the form of an airplane to be piloted by another man) that would land on its shoulder and transform into a bazooka. And a monkey that would turn into a sword. Alas, i suck at drawing transformations. Still have to study military design.
One thing does look off, though. the SKULL on his collar: SG, you couldn't have made it gold or something? it doesn't stand out too much as it should as a symbol. And it sucks that I couldn't have designed it not to look too much like a gundam. Damn.
Now i'm starting to think it looks more like a "Rising Sun" robot samurai than it does something a futuristic pirate captain would ride. Then again, we could always say the cap'n stole it from a Japanese tech installation or something easy like that.
And in case y'all were wondering, that's a bazooka he's carrying.
