| "THEY STAND ALONE" As wrestlers walk into the wrestling room, a cold breeze passes their face. They lace up their shoes and strap on their head gears to engage in battle. It rains in the wrestling room at Monterey, and not because there is a hole in the roof, but the condensation from sweat and heat builds until drops form on the ceiling and fall into little pools on the cushioned mats. The will to prepare for competition is what separates wrestlers form other athletes. Sombody told me that amateur wrestling is the closest definition of hard work. It would be tought to find a sport in which competitors were more evenly matched. The scale and the one on one battles that are closely watched by a referee keep things level.
