IMPORTANT REMINDERS

******  Do not misinterpret a Deaf person's actions if you are yelling and think he/she is being "snob" or ignoring you.  The chances are very good that he/she would not be able to hear you yelling.  If that happens, Just wave your hands to get his/her attention.  Ask him/her if they are deaf by gesturing with your fingers pointing at your ears and shaking your head to signify "no".

*******  There's no need to be sorry if he/she is deaf.  We have been deaf all our lives.  It'd be difficult for us to imagine how our lives would be like if we could hear.  Being deaf is almost like breathing the air or walking.  I have had met people who would walk to me in a city or in a store.  when they  find out that I'm deaf and they would say, "I'm so sorry that you can't hear."  (If I said, "I'm sorry you can hear", would it be a good retort? No offense intended)

*******  Be patient while communicating with a Deaf person.  It can be frustrating at times.  Find a way to make communication easier.

*******  If a Deaf person is in a room full of hearing people, the chances are very good that he/she would feel "left out".  Try your best to spend time with him/her or have him/her included in whatever you are doing.  (Imagine spending time in a room full of Deaf people and you don't know sign language.)

*******  Try NOT to use "bored" or "angry" look on your face whenever you're frustrated in attempting to communicate with a Deaf person.  It can be difficult at times but please try to be patience as much as you can.

*******  Remember Deaf people are human beings just like you are.  Don't treat them any differently just because they are deaf.

*******  Respect Deaf people as well.  It's like the 'Golden Rule', "Treat others just like you want to be treated."
