Curfews on Provisional Licence Holders is BULLSHIT
During the last few months, the
idea of a Provisional and Learner Licence curfew was put forward in an attempt
to "reduce the number of youth deaths" by inexperienced Provisional driving
accidents. Apparently teenage and early tweener drivers lack adequate
experience to be competent drivers on the road and are a hazard to other
motorists and pedestrians. The amount of incidents involving Provisional1
and Provisional2(Green) drivers in NSW has increased close to 10% in the past three
years, with many leaving passengers and other drivers seriously injured.
The new legislation Government is pondering on passing is to not to allow L and
P drivers out on the road after 10pm and to limit the amount of minor (under 18)
passengers in their cars to one and not to allow L or P licence holders to drive
a car that can travel over 120kmh-1 (only 4 cylinder vehicles). Obviously this system is
flawed:
P licence holders that work late hours
Late night emergencies
Not all young people are P platers
Households with only 1 available car for P driver (or none)
People that carpool
Long distance road trips
available public transport after 10pm to 6am
Industries that rely on young people being serviced at night (bars, nightclubs, etc)
Policing the new policy
Shift workers that do a "one off" shift late night
Creating the small print legislation that reflects all stakeholders
amount of paperwork involved in checking, writing up, and maintaining the system of "exception cases"
etc
Everybody
knows that this whole idea is bullshit. 53% of some 200 Sydney residents
wanted the Provisional Curfew Act passed. Why? How the heck are
Provisional drivers gonna gain the skills to drive late at night it was
restricted from them as they were Learner AND Provisional Drivers? You're
gonna have an increase in young permanent licence holders crashing their
vehicles as they didn't know how to react in a hazardous night incident.
The amount of Provisional licence holders that are involved in total incidents is approximately 15%. So this legislation will service the small 15% of the problem, but what is being done to prevent permanent silver, gold and magenta licence holders crashing their cars? Are we just gonna try to kill all the privileges given to the youth and have all the "responsible" adults out there doing all the vehicular manslaughter and having all the fun? It seems that our society is so fucked over that all the old fools try to make everything harder for the generation below them.

Noodle Driver : FUCK YOU P PLATER!
Has only one brought up the issue of age discrimination? Like is it a safe to really say that ALL Provisional licence holders are inexperienced drivers? Or that they are ALL irresponsible and lack good ethics on our roads? NO. A P plater could be an international resident that uses their international drivers licence to attain a permanent Australian licence. Or the scenario where a mother re-applies for her licence after some time being away from driving. Would this curfew also apply for them? They're obviously not part of the "young P Plater driver asshole" stereotype.
The people putting forward this whole legislation are saying that they will accommodate all the necessities of the extreme cases where driving at night is essential to their professional lifestyle, and home-lives. Who is gonna be fucked checking every single application anyway? And there are gonna be those assholes in society that scam their way outta the system by saying they work at night but really they're out partying every Thurs - Sunday night. Its all BULLSHIT.
They did the same thing in New Zealand and everyone there says it ruined the lifestyle of the youth. I can see why doing the whole only one minor in the car crap for Red P Platers like they do in The United States of America, but the curfew thing is total crap. The curfew is gay shit.

One Solution to this problem is pissing in young people's gas tanks.
