WELCOME to this website about my Lab. I am interested in
microbial ecology, a branch
of ecology that studies abundance and diversity of microorganisms,
microbial process rates, and the interaction of microorganisms and
the
environment. My students and I study various types of habitats
e.g. coastal waters, estuaries, urban man-made lakes, wastewater
treatment systems and even solid surfaces.

Ongoing research funding (updated 20081201):
Microbiological profiling of sewage treatment plants
Investigating bacteria mediated carbon fluxes in tropical coastal waters
Students interested in pursuing higher degrees
at my lab, please
send me an email attached with your curriculum vitae and possible
research title. Research projects should be related to the above
research funding although other research titles will also be given due
consideration.
Scholarships are
generally available for Malaysian students with good academic results
(usually with a CGPA of 3.0 and above). International students wishing
to pursue a Ph.D degree here are also welcomed but only those with a
publication record and with IELTS score of above 6 (or TOEFL score of
above 70). Application forms and further information are available here. For international students, a letter of financial guarantee is required.
We also provide analytical services in microbiology and water (freshwater and seawater) quality
testing for other researchers, medical, food and wastewater
