| Wave Race: Blue Storm |
| Nintendo's origional Wave Race game for the Nintendo 64 was a big hit in '96 when it was released. A jet ski game that looked and played great with realistic water effects, sharp crisp graghics and nice gameplay. Nintendo knew a sequal to Wave Race would surly score some points for them, and what a better Nintendo system for it than the Gamecube. Wave Race: Blue Storm, the updated version from the past N64 title Wave Race 64 is now on the Gamecube. When I rented it around the holidays it was quite impressive. From the eye popping water effects to the crazy 6 feet in the air jumps. When looking past the fancy "bells and whisles", it is still basicaly Wave Race 64. There is not a whole lot of changes done to the main game. The chanpionships for example, remain with those red and yellow floats you have to zig zag through. Thou its not a bad thing, its was great the way it was the first time round. The Gamecube version just gives you more of what you like in the origional. For one, this new version has what I think the N64 game need, a replay mode. Another great addition is the free roam. Free roam is a great way to relax and take a brake from all the high speed racing and get a chance to go explore in all the realistic envirments. The multiplayer mode supports up to 4 players at once so you and three other friends can go head to head. Although the sequal to Wave Race is far more advanced, there still is a disapointment. There are only 8 playable tracks. A couple of more would have been better comsidering that the N64 version had a total of 11 or 12 courses. With the 8 available courses, At least extra areas from certain levels open up as you progress in the game giving you a little something new. Summery Wave Race: Blue Storm is an all round aswsome jet ski experience. With all the eye popping visuals and smooth play control, I would have to say its a must play game. I defently would recommend Wave Race for the Gamecube for everyone. |
