| Midways fast arcade action racing on the N64 got alot of style and creativaty. Like their previsous games Rush and Rush 2, California Speed has alot more of the fantasy driving to it. From racing in a shopping mall to the heart of a volcano. Don't expect the same pop-up back grounds from track to track to show up here cause it keeps the racing experience fresh. I like the veriety of vehicles they include convertables to a high speed semi. The games graphics are somewhat cartoony looking with less detail to the cars and enviroment giving a more arcade experience. The splashing mud and water effects are weak and could have used some improvement. Over all, with some exceptions California Speed looks well done. Midway did a great job on the audio soundtracks. You can select one out of about 12 sound tracks anytime in the game. Out of all the tracks It provides a veriety of music for different tastes. The sound effects in the game such as car collishions are a little weak and could have been improved but still passes. The sound of screaching tires can become annoying for some after awhile since you hear it everytime you make a turn. The engine sounds are realistic and sound like your really taking the highway at high speeds. All together I think California Speed is a great game and I would recommend to all gamers expessualy people who loved the first two San Fransico Rush games. With fast pase racing and interesting tracks it's surly to spark some interest. |
