| Pilot Wings 64 |
| When the Nintendo 64 was released back in September of 1996 only two games were available. Pilot Wings 64 and Super Mario 64. Pilot Wing 64 had at the time some pretty nice 3-D graphic enviroments with stunning scenery. Pilot Wings 64 for one is no action adventure. It plays more or so like a flight simulation training mode. The basics require you to fly through floating rings, shoot targets, take screen shots and practice landing on runways. A simple concept but quite challenging. Players can pilot three different air crafts. The hang glider, jet pak, and helicopter. Each one feals and handles completly different for a greater game play. The controlls are simple and easy to learn. Pilot Wings also has some extras hidden in the game you can unlock as you wing gold badges for your objectives. One that I know of is call "Bird Man" where you can take to the skys like a bird using attactable wings. The graphics where nicely done and looked at its time quite impressing. From the smooth and colourful skys to the animated water effects. The 3-D models such as the air crafts are simple in detail but still look how they should. The enviroment landscapes include water falls, forrests, buildings, mountains and valleys. For the music sound effects Nintendo did a farely nice job. For instance, when taking off the run way with the helocopter the engine starting up sound quite realistic. The back ground music fits well with the game play with soft and calm tunes that set the mode of free flight. The voice overs from many of the playable characters though are loud and annoying. Altogher I think Pilot Wings 64 is a good game for thoughs you like flight sims. Other people just might not get into it and find more are less boring. |
