| Burnout 2: Point of Impact |
| Last years Burnout was an arcade extreme street racer with turbo boosts and loads of great car crashes. Acclaims lastest addion Burnout 2: point of Impact has it all from last years game but all tuned up a notch. Burnout 2: Point of Impact for the Nintendo Gamecube defently has some improvements. From the realistic graphics, music, and even the car crashes. But before I go into that just yet, Burnout 2 has also improved most importanly the gameplay. Last years game was based on scoring turbo boosts due to pulling off street stunts from swerving just past cars and crusing on the wrong side of the road. This years Burnout using all those game elements but making it even easier to score turbo boosts. Unliking the first game, Burnout 2 lets you take air off highway jumps to score turbos. The whole mad driving for turbos is quite an addictive game experience performing stuff like you see in all those car chase flicks. Another thing is the handling. This year its tighter allowing players to easily execute last second manuvours from out of harms way. Though for some cars its too tight of handling and does not feal like your driving a real car cause the tires are like magnets to the road. Burnout was best known for its car crashes. Burnout 2 is no exception. It goes beyond the first games crashes with much more depth and realism. Animated car parts such as tires, the hood, and glass can shatter flying among the site. Vehicles can flip and spin across the track and cause a domino effect creating a desplay of destruction. Hey the crashes were so good they even through in a game mode for just that called Crash. In Crash you must cause the biggest and most damaging collision as possable in return rewarding you with points for a possable gold metal. Besides the Crash mode, Burnout also features Offensive Driving 101, Championship, Single Race, Pursuit race, and Multi-player mode. In Offensive Driving 101 your tought all the basics like near misses, pulling jumps and so on. Your then graded on your performence and can you be rewarded a metal. In Championship mode is where thing heat up. You must compete against three other competitive Drivers racing throughout the United States for first place. As you progress through out the game you can unlock new vehicles, tracks and bonuses. In Pursuit race you take behind the wheel of the cop car and challenged to knock the speeding driver off the road. In Single Race you can choose any of the available tracks and vehicles for some high speed races against the computer opponents that great for practice. More tracks and vehicles are available in Single Race as you progress in championship mode. The Multi-player mode is great when you have a friend over and challenge him or her to a head to head race for the finish. Unfortantaly its only for two players though I think this year they should have upgraded it for 1-4 players. One of Burnout 2's improvements I noticed is its solid smooth graphics. I mean everything from the lighting effects at night to the glare of sunlight reflection against the ashphalt. There are also awsome looking enviroments to race in such as the streets of miami to a conjested airport. The animation runs at a smooth rate of 60 frames per second so you'll never have to talerate any slow downs like some games up there. Altogher I think the graphics in its self look amazing and a great improvement from last year. Aside from the graphics, Acclaim did a great job recreating all the sound effects from car engines to crashes. Burnout 2 takes good use of Dolby 5.1 Suround sound so you can experience all the nitro boosting, car crashing effects in real time. For those who don't have that kind of money from one, don't worry it still sounds great. Burnout 2: Point of Impact is a fun and excellent acrade racer I whould defently recommend from any gamer out there. Weather your a casual or hardcore racing fan I'm sure you would find hours of game play here. Back to main page |
