ITS THE WILD, WILD WEST!
The characters start out on another planet similar in climate to earth.  The time era is the late 1800s, and recently shipments of metals such as silver, gold, iron, aluminum, and shipments of wood have been stolen.  The characters are hired to protect a stage coach shipment of aluminum from the town of Akkad going east to the town of Sardis.  All goes smoothly until the characters have to pass through a one hundred foot wide canyon that is seven hundred feet tall.  Half way through (approximately one mile) the characters spot some men at the top of the cliff.  The jump.  The characters notice that they have some sort of a funny tent thing tied to their back (namely a parachute).  The attackers slowly fall at about ten feet per second, when they are within one hundred and fifty feet of the characters, they open fire with shotguns.  The two characters and two men on the stage coach (one of which must focus on driving) managed to fight off the six attackers.  The characters captured one of the attackers and brought him back to Sardis (I suppose that this would be a good time to mention that one of the characters is a beautiful female) where they put him in jail.  Earlier, however, the characters had agreed to break out the attacker as long as he showed them where these stolen shipments were going.  The characters succeeded in breaking out the attacker and proceeded to the secret Canyon City, south of Sardis.
Canyon City is surrounded by five hundred foot tall canyon walls with only one way in, the entrance is only fifty feet wide.  Canyon City has a diameter of about fifteen hundred feet and a probable population of six to seven thousand people.  The purpose of Canyon City is so that Kane (Canyon City's leader, he is tall, bald, and wears a black trench coat) can build his five hundred foot long and three hundred foot wide airship.  The airship has a one hundred foot platform ring around the hydrogen balloon (so that you know, hydrogen weighs 1/14th of air).  It has an array of mirrors on the outside of the platform that takes sunlight and focus' it into one single beam below the balloon, where it can be directed down at anyone on the ground.  The characters witnessed an example of this weapon, it "drilled" a two to three hundred foot well into solid bedrock in about fifteen seconds.  The characters then used dynamite to blast the main entrance full of rock and the airship into little pieces while they escaped.  Then the military came and cleaned up what little resistance was left.
I did this adventure with two second level characters using the D&D system, but without any magic.  If you choose to run this adventure using D&D, you will need to create some new Feats and maybe some new Skills (technilogical skills), along with lots of new weapons and equipment.
