The national average decline in voter participation was 6.4 %. In all the states in which the GOP lost seats, the turn-out decline was greater than the national average. There is a strong relationship between Republicans losing seats, being in the West, and higher drop- off in voting. All the states with a Republican increase in seats were in the West or South. While the correlation breaks down as the state approaches national mean voter decline, half of the GOP losses were in the West and in states that had the highest levels of decline in vote participation. It seems likely that, had voters turned out to vote, the loss of seats by the Republicans would have been much less. to the top Continue
