These days, a female singer Hyori's fame is increasingly getting greater. People even call it even "Hyori Syndrome". TV screen is always showing her, and sports newspaper writes about her everyday. And "Hyori" became the second most popular searched keyword of 'www.daum.net'. So Hyori syndrome is not just the interest about a singer, but a social issue.
Why did Hyori syndrome arise suddenly? She was the member of a famous girl band. And after being solo singer, she became the queen of K-pop with surprise. We can have objection of this state. Nobody says her music is good in artistic view. People just focus on Hyori's appearance and sexuality. And this is because of the mass-media. They and the entertainment company made Hyori big star artificially to make money with her. Hyori is just a planned product of mass-media. But that is not the only reason of Hyori Syndrome.
All the people who was frantic at Hyori have problem too. They were interested in the face and body of Hyori rather than music. And press and entertainment businessmen employed it. So the fundamental problem is on the populace.
Hyori Syndrome can be social problem in many ways.
First it can intensify judgement by appearance that is already wide-spreaded in our society. Press emphasized the appearance of Hyori. And it made women feel envious or inferiority, and desire to be like Hyori. The the member of internet cafe "Foolwing H is now over 40,000. And many Hyori followers are walking on the street. This problem is especially severe to young women. This problem is the common problem of the world. Many American girls want to be like Britney Spears, though they are too young.
And the second problem is the low quality of mass-culture. These days, the power of mass-media became stronger, so people are under great influence of the media. If those media shows sex symbols like Hyori continuously, those sexual stuff will be the main stream of culture. And the TV pop programs are full of those gils like Bada, Lexy, Chaeyeon,...etc. Is those state desirable? The women who stands for our culture is the sluttish sexy puss. is it OK??? And should all people, including children, be fanatic at sex symbols? Certainly sex symbol is always needed, but if she controls the whole culture, that is wrong.
Hyori Syndrome shows not only the problem of itself but also the problem of our society. The entertainment business and the press is employing the female singers' sexual attraction for money. And also the singers employ it for their popularity. People are very interested and fanatic at them like a fool. crowd mind is a additive reason of that appearance. We have to change little. Entertainment business and the press should consider the quality of culture instead of thinking only money, and the singers should be valuated by their musical ability.
I think Hyori Syndrome will be calm down soon. And after it people should learn that I told before.
