Flight into London. Rest in London. Recover from jetlag.
Day 2
Easy day in London. See a museum. Take a city tour.
Day 3.
Get a rental car in the morning and drive north to Nottingham, stopping in Leicester. In Leicester see the Jewry Wall Museum and the Guildhall. Perhaps ride on the Great Central Railway. See the castle and its museum in Nottingham. Swans Hotel on Radcliffe Road (Nottingham) for the night.
Day 4
Day in Nottingham and surrounding area. See Caves of Nottingham. Visit the American Adventure Theme Park. Second night in Swans Hotel
Day 5
Visit the National Tramway Museum in Matlock, Derbyshire. Arbor Low stone circle, and Haddon Hall in the Peak District. Then drive to York. Stay in Hedley House on Bootham Terrace in York.
Day 6
Day in York. Museums and the cathedral. Second night in Hedley House.
Day 7
Drive up to Edinburgh, passing through Northumberland National Park and possibly stopping at Chester's Fort near Hexham on Hadrian's Wall or see the Priory in Hexham. Late afternoon stroll around Edinburgh. Might stay at the Nova Hotel on Buntsfield Crescent, the Ellwyn Hotel on Moira Terrace, or the Allison House Hotel on Mayfield Gardens in Newington.,
Day 8
Day in Edinburgh. Second night at the hotel.
Day 9
Visit the village of Culross. See Falkland Palace and Garden, drive to St. Andrews and see St. Andrews Cathedral. Stop in Dundee to see the R.R.S. Discovery. Perhaps stop in Stonehaven to look at Dunnottar castle. Arrive in Aberdeen for dinner. Stay at the Atholl Hotel or at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels.
Day 10
Day in and around Aberdeen. Visit Drum Castle, Castle Fraser, St. Machar's Cathedral, and Marischal College.
Day 11
Stop to see some of the stone circles near Inverurie. Visit the Findhorn community. Arrive in Inverness in the late afternoon. Stay at Loch Ness Lodge Hotel in Drumnadrochit, about 15 miles beyond Inverness.
Day 12
Visit Urquhart Castle. In Fort William set out on trail up Ben Nevis. After hike continue to Glencoe, stopping at Highland Mysteryworld and Glencoe Folk Museum. Night in Fort William at the Nevis Bank Hotel or else in Glencoe at the Glencoe Hotel.
Day 13
Day to hike around Glencoe and Fort William. Possibly visit Sea Life Center near Loch Creran. Second night in Fort William or Glencoe.
Day 14
Day to drive down to Stranrear. Stop along Loch Lomand. Visit art museum in Glascow. When that closes continue through Kilmarnock on our way to Stranrear. From Stranrear continue west to Portpatrick to stay Knockinaam Lodge.
Day 15
Day to explore from Portpatrick. Visit Castle Kennedy, Glenluce Abbey, Kirkmadrine Church, Ardwell House, Logan Garden, and the Mull of Galloway. Second night at Knockinaam Lodge.
Day 16
Day to travel from Stranrear to Haltwhistle with stops to see the Torhouse Stone Circle, Kirroughtree Visitor Center, the Threave Garden in Castle Douglas, Dumfries (Twelve Apostles standing stones), and Hadrian's Wall. Stay in Haltwhistle.
Day 17
Morning to see Hadrian's Wall and museum near Haltwhistle. Visit Nenthead. Stop in Penrith. Aira Force Waterfall near Ullswater. Stay at the Derwentwater Hotel or Skiddaw Hotel in Keswick.
Day 18
Hike in the morning. Drive through Windermere on the way to Heysham. Take ferry across the Irish Sea to Douglas on the Isle of Man. Stay at the Sefton Hotel.
Day 19
Day on the Isle of Man. Second night at the Sefton Hotel.
Day 20
Return to Heysham by ferry. Visit Lancaster Castle and continue south to Blackpool. Stay at Brabyns Hotel on Shaftesbury Avenue or Gables Balmoral Hotel on Balmoral Road in South Shore. Enjoy the sights of Blackpool.
Day 21
Drive east from Blackpool to Skipton at the southern end of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. See the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam railway, Bolton Priory, and Barden Tower. Hike around the area. If time permits, Visit Fountains Abbey near Ripon. Drive south to Halifax to stay at The Hobbit on Hob Lane, Norland, Sowerby Bridge.
Day 22
Drive south on the M-1 from Halifax and Leeds to London. Check into hotel in London. Turn in rental car and wander the city for our last time on this visit.
Day 23
Fly home from England.
