10 days in Norway in June

Norway:

A Mid-June Trip:

Thursday fly to Oslo. Stay in City Hotel.

Friday day in Olso. Night in Oslo. Stay in City Hotel.

Saturday Visit Lillehammer, Ringebu, and stay in Hundorp bat Sygard Grytting. The drive to Lillehammer is 137 kilometers. It is another 57 kilometers to Ringebu, where we should look around for Lien ancestors and distant cousins, and check out the church. Hundorp (if Summer visit) is only 10 kilometers beyond Ringebu, but Otta (Spring visit) is 50 kilometers beyond Ringebu.

Sunday. More time in Ringebu or Hundorp, then drive to Turtagrø. Turtagrø hotel. The road from Hundorp to Turtagrø is 50 km to Otta, then 65 km on Highway 15 to Lom, then 64 km to Fortun on highway 55. Highways 15 and 55 are mountain roads, and one would probably drive only 40 or 50 km per hour on them, I suppose. The Turtagrø Hotel is near Fortun, on Highway-55 just east of Luster Fjord and Skjolden. It’s up in the mountains, so this could be a good place to go hiking.

Monday. Drive to Fjarland. Stay at Hotel Mundal. To get to Fjarland one drives 90 km down Highway 55 and Highway 5 along the Sognøfjorden to Hella, and then one takes a ferry to Fjaerland up on the Fraerlandsfjord.

Tuesday Drive to Flam. Heimly Pensjonat. Actually, one takes the Ferry from Fraerland to Hella and retraces the highway 5 to Amla (40 km of driving), and then a ferry will take one down the Aurlandsfjord to near Flåm. In Flåm one can take the scenic railroad up to Myrdal, and then walk down the valley to the Heimly Pensjonat.

Wednesday. Drive to Bergen. Hotel Park Pension. The drive from Aurlandsfjord to Bergen is only 176 km, The first 50 km are up a mountain valley, but then the rest of the driving is on major road that looks pretty good (Highway 13).

Thursday Drive to Aurdal. This starts with 103 km on highway 13 to Voss (about an hour), and then 210 km on Highway 7 (with ferry over Eidfjord) to Gol (3 hours), then 57 km (one hour) mostly on Highway 49. Aurdal is in the mountains. (deep in the countryside with mountain views)

Friday. Drive to Oslo. Stay in City Hotel. The drive to Oslo is 107 kilometers to Hønefoss, and then 45 km into Oslo, so it will probably take about two hours.

Saturday. Day in Oslo. Stay in City Hotel.

Sunday. Return home.

Driving:

(times are probably overestimates, as I’m assuming very slow driving on mountain roads)

Saturday. 2 hours to Lillehammer. 45 minutes to Ringebu.

Sunday. 1 hour and 45 minutes to Lom. 1 hour to Fortun and Turtagrø.

Monday. 2 hours from Turtagrø to Fjaerland. Depends somewhat on ferry frequency.

Tuesday. About 30 minutes of driving and perhaps an hour on ferrys.

Wednesday. 2 hours and 30 minutes driving to Bergen.

Thursday. Possibly 5 hours from Bergen to Aurdal.

Friday. 2 hours.
