Germany Castle vacation.
Inspired by a brochure about staying in castles and manor houses in Germany.
It was planned for a specific date
Friday/Saturday June 5/6, 1998.
Day 1 Fly to Berlin from St. Louis. Arrive in Berlin and stay at hotel. June 6
Day 2 Day in Berlin to enjoy museums. Hotel in Berlin June 7
Day 3 Take train from Berlin to Dresden in the morning. Stay in Schloß Eckberg
Day 4 Day to enjoy Dresden, stay again in Schloß Eckberg
Day 5 Rail down to Konigstein. See the fortress, hike in Sächsische Schweiz, Stay in Lilienstein hostel
Day 6 Return by rail to Dresden, then take train on to Leipzig, stay in hostel in Leipzig
Day 7 Enjoy Leipzig, second night in Leipzig hostel
Day 8 Rent car, drive E6 south, then E63 west to Eisenach, Stay at Wartburg Castle. Hike around the forests and hills.
Day 9 Drive on to Kassel (route 7 from Eisenach) Enjoy day in Kassel. Evening drive to Hotel Schloß Waldeck (take 49 south, exit for Fritzlar, west to Waldeck). Stay night in Waldeck.
Day 10 Drive to Bonn. Take 252 south towards Marburg, take 62 west, it turns into 508, then 54, then get on 4 West to Köln. Near the Rhein take 59 south towards Bonn. On Rhein, Karl Adenauer Bridge, very near Bonn and Bad Godesberg go to the Kommende Ramersdorf. Stay the night at Kommende Ramersdorf
Day 11 Day to enjoy Köln and Bonn, stay second night at Kommende Ramersdorf.
Day 12 Drive south along Rhein to Koblenz. Take road 9 south along Rhein to Oberwesel (about 40km south), stay at Burghotel Auf Schönburg.
Day 13 Day to hike or explore along the Rhein. Stay at Burghotel Auf Schönburg second night.
Day 14 Drive south to Heidelberg. Enjoy day in Heidelberg. Drive east 30 km on 37 to Hirschhorn. Stay at Schloßhotel Hirschhorn for the night
Day 15 Day to enjoy Heidelberg and Mannheim. Second night in Schloßhotel Hirschhorn.
Day 16 Drive east to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. From Hirschhorn go east to Wagenschwend, then take 27 northeast to Buchen. From Buchen visit Roman ruins, then on to Bad Mergentheim, Weikersheim, Creglingen, and then to Rothenburg. Stay in Hotel Eisenhut. Enjoy the countryside.
Day 17 Drive to Frankfurt. Stay in Frankfurt.
Day 18 Fly back to the United States. Tuesday, June 23, 1998.

Schloß Waldeck (Waldeck Castle), a medieval fortified site situation on a rock 120 meters above the Edersee, offers a unique panorama of the Waldeck holiday area.

Hirschhorn -
Since the 12th century Burg Hirschhorn has towered high above the Neckar valley fortified by its castle keep and parapet. Ministering angels have transformed it into a comfortable castle hotel with tastefully restored, quiet rooms. Open-air terrace with magnificent view. 3-star hotel. 3-star restaurant.
Hotel Eisenhut:
Four medieval patricians’ houses dating back to the 12th century were converted to one hotel. Of considerable atmosphere and comfort, combined with individual and friendly hospitality mark this hotel. Cuisine and cellar are famous. 4-star hotel. 3-star restaurant.
