Drive to Indianapolis, stopping in Terre Haute for lunch, arriving in Indianapolis by 3:00pm.
Take a couple hours to see the State Capitol and a museum. Evening with Dad.
Morning at Conner Prairie. Lunch there. Leave for Columbus, OH around 3:00pm, arriving there by 7:00pm. Spend the night in Columbus.
Leave Columbus around 11:00am.
Lunch near Cleveland around 1:30pm.
Arrive in Niagara Falls about 8:00pm and check into hotel there.
Day to enjoy Niagara Falls and the many tourist attractions associated with it.
Leave Niagara Falls around 9:30am, arrive in Albany, NY by 3:30pm. Enjoy the New York State Capitol or museums in Albany, NY
Leave Albany by 9:00am. Stop in Bennington, VT to see battlefield and museum around 10:00am. 11:00am continue to Brattleboro, then north to Woodsville, NH for lunch around 1:30pm. Arrive in Bretton Woods in the afternoon around 3:30pm.
Take train to top of Mt. Washington and spend some time enjoying the top of the mountain. Leave the Bretton Woods / Mount Washington area around 3:00pm. Arrive in Augusta, ME by 5:30pm.
Morning to visit State Capitol of Maine and some museums. Leave Augusta by noon. Arrive at Mount Desert Island and Acadia Natonal Park around 2:30pm. Go for a hike.
Day to enjoy Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, ME.
Day to take the ferry to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Upon arrival in Yarmouth drive along 103 to Shelburne.
Morning to visit Shelburne County Museum, Ross-Thomson House, and the Dory Shop, all in Shelburne. At 1:30 leave Shelburne, continue along 103, exiting on 3 to go to Lunenburg to see the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. That seen, continue on to Halifax.
Day in Halifax to admire the Citadel, St. Pauls Church, Povince House, Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, the Bluenose II, and the Nova Scotia Musuem of Natural History. Leave Halifax at 6:00pm., arriving for the night in Amherst, NS about 7:30pm.
Morning to view Fort Beauséjour ruins. Rest of the day to drive and hike along the coast of Chignecto Bay in the Bay of Fundy, visiting Hopewell Rocks and Fundy National Park. Get to Moncton around 3:00 for a visit to the Acadian Museum. Possibly go back to Hopewell Rocks again to notice tide size. Spend the night in Moncton or Sackville.
Morning to take Ferry to Prince Edward Island from Cape Tormentine. Afternoon to visit Prince County, staying in a Bed & Breakfast in Summerside.
Move to Kindred Spirits Country Inn and Cottages at Cavendish. Day to see more of the sights in the interior of the island.
Day to relax in Cavendish, enjoying the beach at Prince Edward Island National Park.
Day to relax in Prince Edward Island, possibly visiting some play areas and Woodleigh. Evening in Charlottetown, where we spend the night after a dinner at the Lobster on the Wharf restaurant.
Leave Charlottetown by 10:00am. Take a morning ferry from Wood Islands across to Caribou, Nova Scotia. Drive over to Cape Bretton Island, and take route 105 to the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Park in Baddeck, arriving there by 3:00pm. After that, drive on to Chéticamp near Cape Breton Highlands National Park for the night.
Spend most of the day in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park hiking and enjoying the views. Take the Cabot Trail along the Gaelic Coast. If this is the first full week of August there will be Scottish festivals. Spend night in Sydney.
Day to visit Fortress of Louisbourg and Quarry Point Miners Museum in Glace Bay. Night in Sydney
Take a Sunday ferry to Argentia, Newfoundland. If the weather looks rough, this could be taken as a night ferry Sunday night, which gives an extra day in Sydney and one less night in St. Johns. Reservations in advance, though. 14 hours on the boat. Assuming we take the all-day ferry, take an hour to drive to St. Johns once arriving in Newfoundland and spend the night there.
Day to admire St. Johns, Newfoundland. See the Newfoundland Museum and Signal Hill National Historic Park.
Drive from St. Johns down the Burin Peninsula to Fortune, stopping in Grand Bank to visit the Southern Newfoundland Seamens Museum and enjoy lunch. With a 90 minute stop for lunch and a look around, total time to Fortune should be about 6 hours. In Fortune take a ferry to St-Pierre. Spend the night there at Chez Marcel Hélene pension.
Day to enjoy the French departement of St-Pierre et Miquelon. Second night at Chez Marcel Hélene pension. (unless missing the ferry the previous day, in which case we will have spent Tuesday night in Fortune and only have Wednesday in St-Pierre.)
Take ferry back to Fortune, then back north up the Burin Peninsula to Terra Nova National Park. Spend the afternoon there hiking. Spend the night in the Park.
Day in Terra Nova National Park. Late afternoon drive to Lewisporte to board evening ferry for Goose Bay. Night on Ferry
Saturday we have the whole day and night on the ferry to Goose Bay. Well see whales and icebergs. Hope for good weather or this could be a rough ride.
Sunday morning, about 36 hours after leaving Lewisporte, we arrive in Goose Bay, Labrador. Visit Labrador Heritage Museum, Northern Lights Military Museum, Trappers Brook Animal Displays. Spend the night at Royal Inn.
Monday. Leave Goose Bay around 10:00am, arriving in Churchill Falls between 4:00 and 6:00pm after going 180 miles on Route 500. Stay in Churchill Falls at the Churchill Falls Inn. Visit the hydroelectric project.
Tuesday. Morning to enjoy Churchill Falls, then a 3 hour drive on 500 to Grand Hermine Wilderness Park (not too far from Wabush), where we can hike on glacial eskers. Drive on one more hour to Labrador City (total of 150 miles of driving from Churchill Falls). Make appointment by phone before arriving to visit the Height of Land Heritage Centre and the Iron Ore Company of Canada to learn about this mining community. Night at Two Seasons Inn.
Wednesday. Leave Labrador City at 9:45am. 30 minutes (25 miles) on paved road to Mount Wright, then 90 minutes (40 miles) down to Fire Lake, then 1 hour (55 miles) down to Gagnon, arriving at the site of this dismantled community around 12:45pm., then on gravel road for 105 miles to Manic 5, arriving there by 3:30 for the 3:30 tour of the Daniel Johnson dam. After the tour drive another 125 miles south to Baie Comeau, arriving there by 8:00pm. Stay at Hotel-Motel La Caravelle.
Thursday. Leave Baie-Comeau by 10:00am, and arrive in Tadoussac for lunch around 1:00pm. Then possibly go for a whale-watching trip or hike around Saguenay National Park. See La Vielle Chapelle and Maison Chouvin. After dinner drive south about 30 minutes to St-Siméon where we can stay at the Motel-Restaurant Les Flots Bleus.
Friday. Leave St-Siméon by 10:30am., and take 362 on way to Baie St-Paul, arriving there for lunch. Look around the town before continuing south to Québec. Night in Québec.
Saturday. Day to enjoy Québec. Second night there.
Sunday. After 3 hour drive to Montreal, rest of day to see Montreal.
Monday. A full day in Montreal.
Tuesday. A 2 hour morning drive to Ottawa, then an afternoon and night there.
Wednesday. A 5 hour drive to Toronto, arriving there around 4:00pm. Night in Toronto.
Thursday. A full day to enjoy Toronto. Second night there.
Friday. Morning in Toronto. Leave Toronto around 3:00pm. to beat the rush hour. Stay for the night in Leamington, taking a visit to Point Pelee Natonal Park the next morning.
Saturday. After a morning visit to Point Pelee, drive on into Michigan. Stop in Dearborn to see the Henry Ford Museum in the late morning through the afternoon. Leave Dearborn by 4:00pm. and continue to Chicago, arriving there by 9:00pm. Spend the night in Chicago.
Sunday. Full day in Chicago, spending the night there.
Monday. Return to St. Louis.
