Three Kings

This is an amazing movie about the Gulf War which taks place immediately after the war in 1991.  Four guys (not the three of the title, strangely enough) find a secret map to one of Saddam's stashes and head for it.  Then they happen across Iraqi rebels, incited by President Bush, being cut down by Saddam's army, and the real movie starts.  This is not really as light as one would think from the opening section-not at all.  It shows the Gulf War as being tragically ridiculous, as I'm sure it was.  If that seems like a contradiction, it is, and that's the real tragedy.  Mark Wahlberg manages to redeem himself for the movie Boogie Nights, and George Clooney redeems himself for leaving the TV show ER.  Ice Cube also does well in the role of the stereotypical devoutly Christian black guy, and despite the occasional choppiness of the editing, this movie is one hell of a ride.
