Cabaret

Wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome...

Based on the Broadway musical, which I haven't seen, but I've been told this is quite different.  Judging by the movie, the stage version must be pretty good.  My favorite part-well, I don't know if favorite is the right word-is when this Nazi kid gets up in an outdoor cafe and starts singing.  It's much more powerful than it sounds, really.  This is a somewhat violent and very creepy movie and also extremely raunchy.  And I mean extremely.  Younger children could be severely traumatized by that alone.  The story focuses on an American performer at a cabaret in Germany in 1930 and it shows the decay of post-world war I society as well as the early rise of Hitler.  This is extremely good and should be watched by anyone studying European history or culture.
