THE GHOST THAT MUST BE LAID TO REST
by Cian O’Gamhna

Interesting times these at the Stadium Of Light? our form shows us to be near the top
of the table but our points show us to be mid table but thats another argument and
hopefully that whole affair will soon disappear and will take our rightful place in the
table. But what I am going to talk about today is the lack of buzz around the place, sure
we have had snippets of glory with the league cup?,3-2 and 4-1 against $hels, but these
were a shadow of past glory. What im talking about is the memorable two in a row
season especially the second part of our double act after the Celtic game. Those nights
in richer will live long in the memory,we had great crowds, great players, great buzz,
and great times in general. Our record now showed a small football club that was on
the edge of football ablivian that draged themselves up to return home and become one
of the most successful clubs of the 90’s in ireland. The football world was our oyster
we were fast becoming the run away leaders of Irish football as we had the right
squad, back room staff, and finaces and the dream of making a break through in
europe.More fool us as when the draw of Fsc Zimbru was drawn from the UEFA hat
we were licking our lips at the prospect of facing an unknown Moldovan club, after all
a year earlier we had humbled the great Glasgow celtic in their own back yard and this
tie was seen as the chance for the irish clubs to finally make a break through into the
next round. The day of Wednesday 14th of July will long live in my memory even after
my best attempts to forget, but then we thought the stage was set for a memorable
victory in front of a good crowd and of coarse our guest of honour BERTIE.How
were we to know that this day would change the fortune of our club for the fort
coming years,I was gob smack a goal after goal went in by mister X,I cant honestly
remember the goal scorers names things were that bad.But then after that horrific
night we thought that things couldn’t get worse but we were wrong ,we should have
waited till the 21st we things deffin-i-tly got worse as we were beaten again by
five goals.Im my view things havent been the same since,as we are stilltaunted by
the chants 10-0 to the refugees, and the buzz that once reined over the camac has
gone, the crowds has dwindled, our star players have all but a few letf Inchicore.
So when will the ghost of Zimbru be laid to rest and when will the massof Inchicore
faithful return, when we raise the league trophy in triumph or at leastcome second, then
we can lay this dark chapter of our clubs history to rest and onceagain be CHAMPIONS OF EIRE.

PS I hope we dont have to wait as long as we have for the cup
